Paris: the prefecture bans the far-right March of the Committee of May 9

The Paris police prefecture has banned the march of the Committee of May 9, as well as antifascist gatherings and a route linking Saint-Michel to Denfert, citing the risk of violent clashes, the presence of ultra-radical European militants and neo-Nazi incidents last year.

The Paris police prefecture, by a prefectoral order, has banned the march organized by the Committee of May 9 scheduled for May 9 because of the risk of inter-group clashes and the announced participation of foreign ultranationalists.

The order recalls the memory of Quentin Deranque and mentions the death of Sébastien Deyzieu as factual elements used to assess the context of political and security tension.

The authorities justify the ban by behaviors observed during previous editions, notably the display of Nazi salutes and neo-Nazi symbols and participants concealing their faces, signs of radicalization within the far right.

An antifascist gathering called the Village against the far right was also banned for fear that the route would make a physical encounter between the processions unavoidable, thereby increasing the risk of inter-group clashes.
