Officials and elected members of La France Insoumise denounce the arrest as an attempt to intimidate supporters of Palestine and note that parliamentary immunity did not appear to protect Hassan.

French media also reported the discovery of a small quantity of “synthetic drugs” during the custody, a detail that has been mentioned in political reactions surrounding the case.

Hassan, a Franco-Palestinian lawyer elected to the European Parliament in 2024, is known for her pro‑Palestinian activism, notably her participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla intercepted by Israel in 2025.
