The president fired Pam Bondi and named Todd Blanche as acting Attorney General, after publicly expressing his frustration on Truth Social.

Bondi was criticized for her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and faces a possible appearance before the House Oversight Committee accompanied by a subpoena to testify.

During her tenure the U.S. Attorney General reoriented the policy of the Department of Justice toward immigration, purged career staff and oversaw several indictments against public figures following investigations with a grand jury.

Potential replacements include Lee Zeldin, and the firing occurs in a tense political context in which Kristi Noem was also removed and articles of impeachment have been filed against officials, while litigation over the executive orders of the administration continues.
