The head of the Crown Prosecution Service has told prosecutors to make a charging decision more quickly so suspected offenders are charged sooner in the wake of a recent rise in antisemitic incidents.

The directive applies across all hate crime cases, but was prompted by a 'very significant spike' in attacks including stabbings in Golders Green and multiple arson incidents in areas with large Jewish populations.

The DPP said speeding up charging and urging police to gather evidence faster aims to reduce delays that contribute to victim attrition and to rebuild confidence among communities affected by antisemitism.

Officials pointed to the CPS's role as the public prosecuting authority that works with police and courts, and said rapid, coordinated action helped end previous disorder such as the national riots after the Southport attack.
