Controversy in the French National Assembly over literary prize for King Juan Carlos

King Juan Carlos will receive a prize for his book Reconciliation in the National Assembly. Finalists and part of the Assembly presidency expressed surprise; the organizing association defends the decision.

The King Juan Carlos I will receive an extraordinary prize for his memoirs Reconciliation at an event organized by Lire la Société and held in the French National Assembly.

The presentation, part of the literary prize created in 1991, includes a lunch at the Hôtel de Lassay to which the finalists were invited via a physical invitation.

The event is organized in rooms of the Palais Bourbon granted to the association, and the Assembly leadership said these are "events external to political life."

Laurence Debray, co-author of the book published by Planeta / Stock, signs the memoirs for which the award is given and whose presence of the emeritus has generated controversy; it has not been clarified whether he will receive head of State honors.
