SPD, Greens and The Left leave microblogging service X again

The SPD, the Greens and The Left have once again deactivated or deleted their official accounts on the service X. The reason given is ongoing concerns about platform policies and communication conditions.

The SPD — together with Die Grünen and Die Linke — has deactivated its party and parliamentary faction accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and justified the decision with identical statements.

As justification, they say that X (formerly Twitter) has in recent years developed into an environment that 'particularly promotes disinformation,' an assessment that also reflects Elon Musk's reshaping of the platform and the criticism of Ferda Ataman.

According to media reports, the initiative goes back to Pegah Edalatian and was accompanied by the hashtag #WirVerlassenX; party members are being urged to switch to alternatives such as Bluesky and Mastodon.

The parties also emphasize that they will remain active on other channels, but expect that individual high-reach politicians may continue to use X.
