Massie denies hush-money allegation as former aide accuses him ahead of primary

A week before Kentucky’s GOP primary, former aide Cynthia West accused Rep. Thomas Massie of offering $5,000 to drop a workplace complaint and of emotional abuse. Massie calls the claims false, says no ethics filings exist and that he has consulted lawyers.

An alleged former girlfriend publicly accused Rep. Thomas Massie of offering her "hush money"—saying he tried to pay her to withdraw a complaint—while Massie has called the claims false and "unsubstantiated."

The complaint the accuser says she filed went to the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights, an agency that handles congressional staff workplace disputes; KPR reported a proposed settlement draft but could not verify the full complaint contents.

KPR reviewed a proposed settlement that included a nondisclosure agreement the accuser declined to sign, and she says she refused the payment to "just walk away" from the complaint.

The allegations surfaced less than a week before the primary election in which Massie faces a strong, well-funded challenge backed by outside groups, and the race has seen millions in spending from PACs and other political funds.

Massie’s allies have defended him and questioned the accuser’s credibility, while the accuser says she had filed a wrongful-employment claim that the settlement would have resolved — a dispute framed as a wrongful termination matter by her spokesperson.
