Global flotilla of 70 ships departs from Barcelona to try to break Gaza blockade

Activists from ~70 countries depart from Barcelona in a flotilla of 70 vessels with 1,000 volunteers and supplies, seeking to break the Israeli naval blockade and open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.

The Global Resilience Flotilla sailed from Barcelona on April 12, 2026 with about 70 vessels and nearly 1,000 volunteers to try to break the Gaza naval blockade (since 2007) and deliver food and medicine.

Organizers said the mission is acting in coordination with NGOs such as Greenpeace and Open Arms and with Palestinian civil groups to open a humanitarian corridor by sea and land to Gaza.

The history of confrontations over flotillas includes the assault on the Mavi Marmara / IHH (2010 incident), and the Flotilla Coalition warned after the 2025 drone attack on the ship Conscience about risks on the high seas, which underscores the existing tension in these operations.

The promoters justify the action because of the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza (displacement and casualties), pointing to the urgent need for supplies and denouncing what they call geopolitical exploitation that restricts international attention.
